LEDE - Live-End, Dead-End Room Design

In the early 70s studio engineers discovered that studios that were fully covered in sound absorbing materials provided an unnatural sound in real-life situations. From then on, rooms were only partly covered, and the covered part was called the dead end, because that's where the sound had a dry, dead character. The uncovered part that was left was called the live end, due to the lively, more open sound.
